The Wild West!

 In Social Studies, the students have been studying the westward movement of the pioneers. They assembled and glued miniature replicas of covered wagons, then “loaded” them with items needed for the long journey.  After lining up their wagons to make a wagon train, the students were challenged to estimate the length of the train. (Jan's guess was closest!)  The students also played “button and cup,” a popular game with pioneer boys and girls.  At the end of the afternoon, we all enjoyed some homemade cornbread (“johnny cake”).  During Writing Workshop, the students chose pioneer names and began writing diaries describing their experiences on the Oregon Trail!  Below are some photos of our "Pioneer Afternoon":
