Our First Week

Today the students completed a survey about their learning styles, interests, likes/dislikes, and attitudes towards school.  Learning what makes my students "tick" helps me to tailor my instruction in a way that will motivate and engage them in the classroom.  It also lets them know that their feelings and opinions matter to me --- the first step in building a positive classroom community.  After the survey, the students took a Math assessment to let me know what their strengths and weaknesses are (and they were happy to learn that it would not "count" as a grade)!  We ended our day by concluding our reading of Third Grade Angels.  The students chose a character in the story that they related to the most and wrote a paragraph explaining why.  So far, I'd say we're off to a great start!
