Investigating Pollution

In Science, the students have been learning about the effects of pollution on the environment.  We filled a large, clear cup with vinegar to model "polluted" water, then placed a hardboiled egg inside the cup.  Almost immediately, bubbles began to form in the water, and the students began to notice significant changes to the egg. The shell of the egg grew increasingly softer as it began to disintegrate.  The students deduced that organisms growing inside eggs that are laid near polluted land or water may be at risk of serious harm.  Something to think about!
