About our day....

What a wonderful first day of school!  The students were excited to "move up" not only a grade level, but to the second floor!  One of the advantages of our new location is that our classroom is a bit larger than the ones downstairs.  Because of this, I was able to make room for a cozy reading area adjacent to our classroom library.  The students are looking forward to using this space during Guided Reading.  What most fascinated the new 3rd graders, however, is that their desks have a space for storing books and supplies under the seats, rather than under the desktops!
To build enthusiasm for a great school year, we kicked off our day with a few fun icebreaker activities and team building exercises.  I then shared some of my expectations for the year, emphasizing that attitude, behavior, and effort all play an important part in learning.  We reviewed class rules and routines, began reading the book Third Grade Angels By Jerry Spinelli, and started working on a project for Back-to-School night.  All in all, a fun and busy first day!
I've posted some important information under "Class Announcements" on this page, so please take a look.
