In Science class, the students have been working in groups to create a visual exhibit of the planets in our Solar System. They also researched important facts about each of the planets and added them to their displays. (By the way, did you know that Pluto is no longer considered a regular planet, but a dwarf planet?) Take a look at some of their completed projects below!

Students must wear their team colors that day...... April Update

posted Apr 22, 2015, 10:18 AM by Stephanie Gerlach   [ updated Apr 22, 2015, 10:40 AM ]

The students have been making wonderful progress learning the multiplication facts this year! Our class goal is to memorize all the times tables up to 12 by the end of May.  Please encourage your child to practice each night using flashcards, ixl.com, or other online games.....In Social Studies, we've been studying basic economics and budgeting. The students learned how to create a budget that will help them manage their money responsibly - yes, that means saving, not just spending!......In Science, the students have been learning about climate and weather. They made representations of cirrus, stratus, and cumulus clouds using cotton balls. They created a "cloud" in a cup and made it rain!  Take a look at some of their projects below, including the Earth Day art that was completed at home. What a beautiful display!

Mark Your Calendars...

posted Apr 13, 2015, 12:09 PM by Stephanie Gerlach

It’s hard to believe that there are less than 10 more weeks of school ahead – so much to do, so little time!  Here are a few upcoming events you should be aware of:  Tomorrow, April 14th, Lifetouch Photos will be visiting our school for non-uniform photos.  The Variety Show is this Friday, April 14th.  If you haven’t already purchased your tickets, please do so by Wednesday for a reduced rate. A flyer and order form can be found in the Family Folder. There will be a Clothing Drive this coming weekend, Saturday and Sunday, at 10 am.  As you know, our class trip to the Newark Museum has been scheduled for Friday, May 8th. The students will be attending a workshop to learn more about climate, geology, fossils, and the adaptations of living plants and animals - all important tie-ins to this year's science curriculum.  We'll also be visiting the planetarium to take a "tour" of the planets in our solar system - a great introduction to our next unit in science!

Online Spelling Practice

Today I introduced students to a fun new way to practice their spelling words on http://www.spellingcity.com/MsGer.  To access this site on your home computer, simply type the web address (or cut and paste it) into your browser.  Scroll down the page to find our latest class spelling list. Click on S-Test to take a practice test, Teach for instruction, or choose from several Games. (Select free games only).  No password is required, and your child's usage will not be monitored.  As this is an optional activity, regular spelling homework will still be given. Encourage your child to check the site whenever new spelling words are given for more opportunities to play and learn!
