Over the next few weeks, the 3rd graders will be studying living things in Science.  We are currently investigating plant life, including the roles of roots, stems, and leaves. This week we'll also begin learning about photosynthesis, which can be a difficult concept for young students to understand. To help them along, we'll be "acting out" the process, complete with props and costumes. The students are looking forward to learning Science through dramatization!........In Math, I will begin giving the students timed assessments of basic addition and subtraction facts. I've noticed that many of the students are still relying on strategies like finger counting, using number lines, and tallying. Their assessments will be sent home when completed, along with information about a Math incentive program designed to motivate students to memorize their facts for quick recall. Please look for it in your child's Home/School folder next week!
