 A reminder that Thursday, June 9th, is the last day of aftercare. Friday, June 10th is a half day  with dismissal at 12:15!

Students who did not complete their multiplication charts on Tuesday this week will be given another opportunity to do so on Friday.  Additional dates during the last two weeks of school will  be announced shortly. There will be a test on Chapters 5 and 7 (multiplication and division facts) on Friday of this week…….In Social Studies, students will be learning how to manage a budget by tracking both income and expenses…..Please note that Friday, June 3rd is a 12:15 dismissal day with Mass in the morning.

A reminder that Thursday, May 26 is Field Day; there will be a 1:00 dismissal on that day with no aftercare. Students must wear their Field Day shirts and sneakers.There is no school on Friday, May 27 and Monday, May 30 for the Memorial Day weekend......

 There will be a Math test on Chapter 13 on Tuesday..... In Science, the students will be learning about different types of soil, how they form, and why soil is a natural resource.....  In Social Studies, we will continue to study basic economics. The students will learn how businesses buy goods and sell to consumers.  They will learn the difference between "needs" and "wants" and how this makes a big difference when making a budget!

 The students will be reviewing for a Unit 3 test in Social Studies on Thursday this week. They can prepare for the test at home by studying the review sheets in their notebooks.....In Science, the students will be learning how rocks are formed. Mrs. Marsh sent in some rock/mineral specimens for the students to examine and compare..... In Math, we are continuing to work with fractions. The students will be learning a new technique for comparing fractions, since this has been a challenge for some. Ask your child about it!  They will also be learning how to locate and name points on a number line using fractions.

Our class will be visiting the Montclair Art Museum on Wednesday. Parents who are chaperoning are asked to arrive before 9 am that morning...... In Math, the students will be learning about line plots.  They will also be comparing and ordering fractions from least to greatest..... The students did a fantastic job presenting their "Changing Earth" projects last week! They were able to learn so much from each other, and I was impressed with their planning and creativity.  Good job!..... After the Chapter 5 test in Science on Tuesday, we'll be moving on to the fascinating study of rocks and minerals. If any of you have labeled rock/mineral collections that the students can examine and touch, please let me know!

This week we'll be wrapping up our study of Earth's changes in Science.  Projects are due on Thursday, and students will have an opportunity to present their research to the class. We will also be reviewing Chapter 5 for a test next week..... In Religion, the students will be learning about God's healing love.  We will be reading the powerful parable of the Prodigal Son, and discussing the importance of forgiveness..... The students are excited for our class trip to the Montclair Art Museum next week!  The visit will include a guided tour through a "Using Your Senses" exhibit, and there will be a craft afterwards. Please make sure to send in money and a permission slip for your child!

In Science, the students have been learning about rapid changes to the earth's surface, like landslides, volcanic eruptions, and earthquakes. This week they'll be learning about slow changes, like erosion and weathering. During Technology class, they'll be playing an erosion activity game and comparing photos of erosion and weathering around the world.  In Social Studies, the students will be watching an animated Disney video of some popular American legends. In anticipation of  National Arbor Day this month, the students will be completing a craft and poem about trees!

In Math this week, we are starting a new chapter on Geometry.  The students will learn how to identify, classify, and describe two- and three-dimensional figures. As part of our study of different cultures in Social Studies, we'll be reading and discussing some of Aesop's fables, which were written to teach a moral, or lesson. In the coming days, we'll also be examining some American forms of storytelling, including tall tales (Paul Bunyan's adventures) and legends (the story of George Washington and the Cherry Tree). In Science, the students will be watching a video on volcanoes and creating a giant mural to celebrate Earth Day. The students will receive instructions on Thursday for a "Changing Earth" project which must be completed at home. The project will be due on Thursday, April 28th.
